June 2

June 2...Gunnar's 5th Birthday and Haley and Dustin's 14th Anniversary.  Bug turned 8 in April.  I need to make a blog entry before summer or there may be no news until the fall.  People often comment on how often I am traveling or pursuing an athletic activity.  I say, "I'm like road apples...always on the road."  I heard that your 60s are go go, 70s are slow go, and 80s are no go.  I guess I am stuck in the 60s so far.

Here is what I have been up to:

1.  April was Ukrainian dance competition time.  Luvisa was very successful in competitions at Yorktown, North Battleford, and Saskatoon.

2.  Luvisa and Gunnar had their year end dance recital in May with Rushneychuk Ukrainian Dance Studio.  Amazing, as usual.

...This is the point where I forgot to finish my blog on June 2 so I am finishing this entry on June 24.

1.  Mary is now president of The Saskatchewan Cheer Association.  She has been a cheer judge for several years and has been on the executive for many years.  As president, she will be traveling to competitions across Canada.  Cheer competitions are a big deal in Saskatchewan.

2.  Haley, Luvisa, Gunnar and I presented the Judy Kolach Memorial Scholarship for the 10th time this year at Martensville Grad.

3. Linda and I had the grandkids for 3 days this past weekend while Mary was away on a trip.  They have been Jonesing for a ride in the motorhome so we went on a day long adventure to Black Fox Distillery, Poplar Bluff Conservation Area, Pike Lake Provincial Park, and Crickle Creek Bouncey Castles.  Having both kids for three days requires a lot of energy, but we wouldn't pass up the opportunity for the world.  Luvisa is a wonderful big sister to Gunnar and the two of them are inseparable.

We capped off the weekend with a Father's Day meal at Moxies.

4.  Linda and I spent 3 days camping in the motorhome.  We traveled to Kelvington, golfed at my hometown golf course, camped at the town campground, and had breakfast at the local bakery before going to Greenwater Lake Provincial Park.  We golfed at Greenwater one day and spent another day hiking.  We also borrowed a motorboat at the marina and cruised around the perimeter of the lake. On the final day, we left Greenwater, then traveled to Nipawin and crossed to Prince Albert on Highway 55.  I practice taught in Nipawin back in 1976.  I don't think I have been back there since 1976.

5. On June 22, we finally made our way to our townhouse at Elk Ridge.  I have already golfed two 18s.  The mosquitos are brutal this year; however, I am very grateful the lake levels are up and the land is green with no forest fire smoke.

6.  May and June were busy with home/yard improvements.  We had Dustin's company install new quartz countertops in the kitchen at the Father in Law rate.  I also installed a new vanity in the main bathroom.  In the yard, we created a shrub bed in the front yard.  My back has now fully recovered.

7.  We usually have a long road trip in May/June; however, this year we are taking a motor home trip to the mountains in the fall.  It has been enjoyable being at home in the spring, getting things done, and appreciating our routines.

8.  For the past three months, we have been supporting our friend, Dale, whose wife Trish (Judy's best friend) has serious health issues and has been in hospital since late February.  We have had Dale over for meals and Linda helped Dale sell excess house items in his garage sale.  Dale and Trish have sold their house and will be living in an apartment.  We hope and pray that Trish will regain her strength and recover.

Until next time, remember: "While I breathe, I hope."  Don't spend your days fretting about growing old counting down the years you have left.  Spend your days building memories, filling your jar, and giving life to others.
